Repeat repeat.
I am wanting to try a different style bullet to perhaps beat the pitting.
For a pitted barrel, should one try a harder mono bullet or a softer deforming cup and core bullet ?
Should one aim for shortest bullet or longest style bullet of same weight.
I am thinking hardest bullet in shortest style with longest bearing surface to beat the rough bore, though some may suggest shortest bearing surface I believe the longer bullet support would be better.

I'm not understanding what the kerfuffle is all about.

One is not better than the other.

In both cases, any scope adjustment is going to require calculation.

I use a MOA scope, range in meters, and use meters in my ballistic calculator. I don't need to do math in my head, so the units of measure are just numbers to the calculator.

Ranging in yards and using a MOA reticle makes it easier to mentally quantify an offset, and the same for ranging in meters and using a MIL reticle. In cases where the target size is given in cm, but not the range, it makes the mental gymnastics less challenging when using a MIL reticle. Same for inch size targets and a MOA reticle.

Interestingly, scope bases are never classified in MILS of elevation, always in MOA.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA7wX2lAkSc

I've owned this rifle for a year or so, and I was never confident that I was sizing the brass correctly. Because I didn't know how to remove the firing pin, I worked on a go, no-go method. This was done using a fired Berdan case that would not chamber at all, sizing it fractionally till the bolt could close.

Sized a batch of brass today, and I tested the bolt close on a sized case, compared to a fired case from this rifle, to see if I could feel the difference, and I could not with any degree of certainty.

I had searched online for info several times, unsuccessfully. Today I included 4-lug bolt in the criteria, and Halleluja !

My go, no-go method with the firing pin in the bolt is very close, it needs a partial hair less to be where I want it.

This last w/end I ended up as last person to shoot due to guests needing their chances. Last hunt, last hour of hunt a Impala ram presented itself at 247 m. I shot it with a far behind shoulder intention as the Impala are producing a terrible amount of meat damage if shot even near shoulder.
The hit sounded and the bush was a turmoil of ewes jumping and bolting every which way before joining up and running off, I could not find my ram in the mix. I counted rams I could see and confirmed that there were two ?

I thought there was only two before shot ? This was worrying ! - Very.

As they got far I thought one animal less passed out from behind a large bush cluster and hoped it was because of expiry date being reached.

We walked back to bakkie and drove to animal nearest reach point, which was about 120 m from standing point. You have to drive about 3 km to get to this point from a 247 m shot because of ravines etc
We searched area and found nothing at POI not even blood, so we searched in route to where I thought it may have fallen. At some point I forgot to keep a verbal leash on the puppy and he took it as his chance to bolt. I was furious that he did it again. A moment later I heard his puppy bark and he was onto the animal. He chased the Impala until it went down and I was so proud of him, second time this w/end he did same thing ( earlier we found an impala with a broken front leg and I let him chase it, he did so till it fell and then he bayed till I got there)

Now to the question, the bullet hit about where intended, but did NOT exit, 130 gr bonded at 3000 fps. The bullet hit no bone and no gut, bit of lung, destroyed liver.
I expected a through shot and a 30 -50 m run, but it ran 400-500 m.

Why did this bullet no exit ?
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55339388328_d3a7791949_b.jpg2ee78f3c-7e3e-4c5b-a9dd-71dfdc2743cb by frank allen, on Flickr

Hi Folks, I hope all are doing well.

I would like to get my wife a shotgun for basic sport shooting - falling plates, stationary clays etc. If necessary, it would need to double for snakes in case of need.

However, she is really very sensitive to recoil - shooting a 222 or 223 is comfortable.

I have a Winchester 1300 Defender lined up for her. How do I tame the beast that it doesn't hurt her?
