What I have seen with her .303 is that the sharp edges of the pitting smooth down quite quickly. Fouling did not increase as quickly as expected. To make this process faster, you can put some Iiosso on a tight-fitting jag and run it up and down the barrel a few (50) times. I used Brasso that time.

I have pondered this question as well.

Pits lessen the structural integrity of the barrel, hence I assume that a kaboom situation is more likely. Once cut in, a mono bullet is said to have less pressure than a C&C bullet but how does it influence the erosion at the pits?

In the US, there is a company which makes extra soft bullets especially for pitted barrels. The theory is apparently that a softer bullets deforms and is less likely to get stuck.

I cannot agree with this for pitted barrels, - worn yes, but not pitted. Soft bullets will smear and tear and deform

I fed the wife's. 303 with normal Sierra bullets and the accuracy was just fine.
Don't you think that perhaps the the bullets may be to blame? Pitting is usually not the accuracy killer that most think it is.

I am looking at the Peregrine Bushmaster bullets for the 308. 7x57 and maybe the 458. We shoot 240 m max, max ! usually 80 to 170m - what am I needing BC for ?

Pitted barrel bullets question

I have a badly pitted 7x57 rifle that shoots 2 touching holes and then one flyer. Repeat repeat.
I am wanting to try a different style bullet to perhaps beat the pitting.
For a pitted barrel, should one try a harder mono bullet or a softer deforming cup and core bullet ?
Should one aim for shortest bullet or longest style bullet of same weight.
I am thinking hardest bullet in shortest style with longest bearing surface to beat the rough bore, though some may suggest shortest bearing surface I believe the longer bullet support would be better.

just download it DsJ, light load, light charge. use something as a space user wad and off you go.
You putting all this into something she is outgrowing as you create it for her.
I bought a 410 for Cody, only to find by the time it was licenced he had already moved on to 16 G and when it was licenced he was using my 12 G while I drank beer cause I had no gun. Same with his 223, when it arrived he was already happy with my .270 Win

I have done some research (Internet articles, YouTube channels, personal discussions etc) and I am fairly sure that I would probably get close to a good fit for the Mrs.

Does anyone have experience with the newer spring- and gas operated recoil reducers, or something similar? The Beretta kick-off unit gets good reviews.

That all depends on what you feel confident with. For instance, I have learnt MOA. I look at the wind and decide how much MOA the deflection the is. That is why I prefer a MOA scope. Someone else normally shoot PRS and only think in tenths of a mill. That is why they feel comfortable with a mill scope. Lastly you get people that just want an aim point. They use BDC reticles or just plain plex. Not one is better than the other.
