If it comes in at half the price of a Garmin, I'll take it.

I was waiting for the Xero to come down a bit in price, and Safari have it on special now for 10 999.

I'll hold off till this one comes in, even if it's 8k, it's a good buy. Assuming it works. We'll have to follow a bit of Youtube to find out.

A risk with waiting for prices on imported luxury goods in sa to drop is that our currency has been on a pretty much consistent decline for a couple decades. I saw the effect of this when I restored vehicles and parts that I marked down as required at the beginning of the project had increased enormously in price by the time I got to ordering them a year or two later.

The currency decline is minor compared to the rate of inflation.

According to the official numbers, inflation was average about 4% for the last 5 years.

That is false.

You can prove it for yourself simply by comparing your utility bill from 5 years ago to today, your fuel bill from 5 years ago to today, as well as your monthly grocery bill from 5 years ago to today.

Ja, inflation's been 4% and I'm Tinkerbell. The impact of currency depreciation on imported stuff bought in dollars is far from minor. In the five year period you mention alone the rand dollar has ranged between 13.70 to 19.80 and those were less than 2 years apart. Stock bought at those two points would end up retailing for noticeably different prices.

I don't mean that the actual exchange rate number change is minor, it's effect on the average person's direct purchasing power for local goods, is minor compared to inflation.

Fair enough, I was referring specifically to stuff like the chrono you're considering which is made, bought and shipped in dollars. Sadly, very little of the stuff which I might still want to buy that relates to shooting doesn't fall squarely into that category.
