The other day, I fired a few rounds with my Howa short action 204. And then one of the cases failed to eject and remained stuck in the chamber. I tried several times to re-engage the bolt face with the stuck case, but it did not engage. Eventually I took the rifle home and pushed the case through from the other side with a rod.
I inspected the bolt face and didn't see anything obviously wrong with the extractor claw or the ejection button. both moved as expected on their springs. I oiled them for good measure. I tried the same empty case again, and it got stuck again. I did see a bit of wear on the ejector button, but I think this is an extractor claw issue ?
Any idea's where to start trouble shooting?
Any oxidation or stickiness on the case? Check the chamber for any dirt intrusion.
If the same case sticks, but not others, I found its the case rim that is the problem.
