Title: 5 year old and going with.
Post by: Treeman on Jun 06, 2025, 03:22 PM
One of the guys that hunts with me and has been there for all of Cody's life, a part of Cody's growing up.
Well this guy and his wife could not have children, and it was a shame, he was a natural father and of so much need to be a father. Well 5 years ago there was some miracle and his wife had a medical mishap, her periods stopped and there was fears about the condition she has having caused further female issues.
Turns out she was pregnant  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D
There were a lot more people ecstatic than just him her.
Well that was 5 years ago, that little boy is going on his first hunt with me this week end.
Will keep you posted.

CONGRATS! Introducing little ones to the field is if immeasurable worth.

A while ago, I visited a young guy whose dad had passed away. He proudly showed me a rock from every camp he went along to.

Hear hear! People who grow up with lots of time in the field are better for it than those who don't.

Our hunting group included youngsters and they loved the farm experience. Teaches them about realities and lets them acquire life skills. Also great to see their energy and love of freedom.

Weather was beyond perfect, sunlight, but no sun, just clouds. Temperature hovered between 8 and 12 Cel, perfect for walking - did a3 hr, 2 hr and a 5 hr walk and stalk. I had so many issues, it was just not funny, velt was very different and animals were in high alert.
Guest got his buck and his son loved it.

Saw quiet a shocker today, first time I have seen this. I think there are to many big rams on this farm, and the fighting is fierce. Check the damage to this one we shot.

This animal also had a long stab wound that was full of puss :-X
One leg muscle was completely torn off.

I have shot/seen a few animals with newer or older wounds. In one case, we could clearly see that a springbuck ram was sick but couldn't wee why. Once shot, we saw he had a similar gash to his hindside. It was healed, but explained his bad condition.

My dad once shot an impala with rotten intestines, and my brother shot a previously wounded one - it's eye was blown out. So yes, it occurs.

No bed rest, no pain killers. Perhaps hell is in the form of reincarnation as an animal.

There was horrible goo in that animal. I wore gloves for the first time in ages.

Thanks for the info on the ram's condition. Normally any infection has a bad effect on the quality of the meat.

How did the youngest of the hunters enjoy the trip?

I was not with the hunter, he went with Cody. Cody said that the kid had a really good time and that he was surprised at how far the child walked before getting tired.
Kid was a bit whiney and demanding at the camp site, but not to any degrading of enjoyment of day.
One thing that was interesting ! Cody is now 17 , and every time the kid did something childish, wanting  Dads attention constantly or scared of dead animal etc, Cody would ask "was I also ?......."
