I was at the Kruger Park 2 weeks ago.
Here's my experience with all this..
Entered at Paul Kruger Gate.
Parked just outside the gate with everyone else.
Let my wife pay entry at the office, while I walked over to security where you drive in, and declared my firearm.
After showing license which was compared to SN, I then signing a register.
I was then asked to make the FA safe, and present with slide back so they could insert a cable through the barrel, which was then sealed with a tag.
I held the FA the entire time this was done.
This was all done outdoors right next to the boom.
Car boot was then searched, but that was standard procedure.
Exited park via Malelane Gate.
Drove up to the exist & showed my park payment paperwork at the boom, to leave.
I exited vehicle, explained that I'd declared a FA on entry and asked for the tag to be removed, which was also done outside in open area.
Car boot was searched again.
I'd be hella tempted to take a backup pistol and/or a bolt cutter. I carry so that I can shoot people that need shooting and they don't cease to need shooting because they enter a park

The barrel wire is easily cut with a standard Leatherman or similar multi tool.
That undeclared "back up" might just get you into some deep poo if discovered...

When we had the baboon/children scare, I shot the baboon with a undeclared pistol. I reported matter myself and was asked why I did not declare my weapon. I answered that I considered it unsafe to advertise my personal defence weapon while in a area such as we were in and to add a no security, reception, police, anything wilderness area. I said that unless he can guarantee me the integrity of every person that has access to the non secured declarations book, every entry was of value to persons wanting to attack a sleeping person in a tent for purpose of obtaining their firearm. (always been a fear of mine - being attacked while in a tent, moered with a spade while in a bag :o .)
The guys just said " you really should declare it)
When we pass through this area with rifles to hunting area, I always declare my rifles, but again not my EDC.
When I go through the Kruger Park I do declare and allow my weapon to be zipped, I do not feel the overwhelming, immanent risk in the park.
