Title: What do you use to fill your shooting bag
Post by: jager on Jun 06, 2022, 11:02 AM
Just ordered a set of shooting bags. (for bench rest, not for carrying the gun in).  What do you use to fill your bags.

River sand, cat litter, plastic BBs? rice?

Washed river sand for me. Can do it in colander so that you lose dust and smaller grain sizes. Coarse grains allow for a bit of movement. Cat litter is too light IMO.

Rice and mielies/maize mix.

I never had good results from filling my own bags.

The best rear bag I've used is the set from Safari and Outdoor. You get one tall bag, one short, and two wooden bases. Comes in a green canvas with a carry bag.

They are nicely weighted, and firm.

I think that's the one that I've ordered.  I just assumed it won't come filled, as couriering that much weight wouldn't make sense.    It they come filled I'll be very happy.

That's the one I have. It comes filled. It's not as heavy as sand would be.
