How I made my own lead melters. If you can weld, you can do it.

I was wondering how the tap would be made.

I saw it some years back when i was contemplating making a bulk melter and reckoned, as i still do, that it was one of the most practical designs I'd seen. Ultimately decided against making it as I get my range scrap in pre-melted irregular chunks which I cast into clean ingots from a big pot. Suspect that If I start dripping birdshot as i will probably need to that arrangement wont keep up.

He's an otherwise old bugger and despite numerous messages I haven't heard back from him. Hope he's still in the game as he was reasonably priced and hell of a convenient.
