What is the craziest excuse you have ever heard for missing a shot ?

I have heard some tall stories,some tales that befuddle belief.

I challenge anyone to beat this.

I missed the shot/chance because a meteorite almost knocked us off our feet it was so powerfully close in passing by before hitting earth. about 70-90 km further down the road.

I am waiting.

I can vouch for this one. We were  roughly 7-9km on the other side of the same meteorite, hunting bushbuck in that particular area of the Karoo, next to the border of the old Ciskei.

The meteorite was indeed quite close to the earth, and the missing bullet traveled over our heads.

I had a guy who is on this forum hunting with me, lets see if he chirps in on this. I really mean this, not joking, a fkn meteorite upset the shoot.
Surely this is a first.

I'm not a very experienced hunter so I do not know how common this event is, but it was damn annoying.

Friend of mine had that experience on a hunting trip. After checking zero at the range he left his rifle on his bed. Next day his first shot broke the front leg of a springbuck at closer range. The farmer then asked that they first try and shoot a blesbuck. His second shot also caused a wounded animal. He then made a mark on a fence post and discovered that his rifle was shooting very low. After adjustment he managed to kill both the wounded animals, each with only one shot. He said he noticed that his rifle had been moved when he went to bed. There are people like that when hunting partners cannot be picked on a weekend hunt.

Crazy that. Didn't even occur to me that someone could be enough of a Papa Oscar Echo Sierra to do something like that

Someone deliberately fiddle with his scope?

Turns out his brother had slipped the evening before, bumped the scope in the process and thought nothing of it.

It did surprise us that the POA moved so not certain if scope physically moved in the rings or internally only.

I have found things break before POI is affected by falls etc. Cody as a kid smashed his Leopold front in in a fall. I sat on a farm with a pair of hammers, one as a anvil and one as a hammer and tapped the front of the scope open again.   In all of that happening, the one shot tester was spot on still. I have had some other bad bangs to rifles and scopes occure, never once was a zero knocked out.

My rifle while in its bag slid and fell when leaning against a wall recently. Very mild fall, but scope had issues since that day. Had to change it eventually. It kept losing zero, turrets weren't adjusting correctly, struggled to set it with a bore sighter.Scope wasn't loose, everything was still tightened correctly. Although it was a cheap scope, it lasted a couple of years and served me well.

cheap scope is likely the issue. Cody had a Leopold, and it got bliksemed !!!! Got it when he was about 11 years old, growing up scope that.

This scope was a well known brand scope, their entry level model. I told my mate to go get the screws / rings checked to see if they need tightening but not sure if they have.

I was surprised that the POI had changed that dramatically.
