I've been following the price of the Garmin Xero chrony, hoping for a big discount to come up, and the number of units available is in serious decline.

Safari & Outdoor do not list it as a stock item any more.

In most places, it is now out of stock, or only a few left.

Am I missing something ?

A local guy was selling his for 6 or 7 K a week or two ago, thought nothing of it so let it pass. Locally it seems the guys are less than impressed with this Garmin Chroni, I noticed a flurry of sales and then quiet. If I could say the like this, the rich guys all bought them as the latest must have and then sold them a few months later.
Seems to have quietened down now.

I was at Safari today, and the Xero are in stock.

The Safari website is showing stock again as well, the price is now 1k more than it was last year.

I've seen one in action and it was great! Way easier to setup than my old Chrony! Almost made me buy one!

I saw my first one yesterday, owner was very chuffed and I was impressed.
Strange how my first  post #1 was less than enthusiastic due to a local firearm groups on goings, I actually thought they must be shitty.
Seems they are going to be the new best.
R13000 is going to be a serious stumbling block though  ;D  ;D

I haven't seen one in the flesh but two people I know who have them rave about the things. The one guy replace his labradar with it and says that it's better than that. Having got to mess with a labradar a bit and having been very impressed I imagine the xero must be quite something.

but, but buuuut - R13000 for it, in my world as a hunter shooter, not a compo shooter fanatic, its a long crunch R13 000

I'll bet a buck that the majority of them are bought by people who have a fair bit of money and like having the new big thing. The total number of people in the country who could derive a real practical/performance benefit from one of these over whatever they had already must be very small indeed.

I see the benefit purely in saving time, in two ways. First, the setup time on the range for testing, which is a minor saving, but where the major saving comes in is being able to chrony at a match, in particular when you have a new batch of reloads that duplicate your previous load, and you can verify the velocity without having had to go through a whole other range session to verify before the match. It's impossible to setup and use a non-radar chrony at a match that is shot prone, and saving the time of a separate range session for a velocity check is significant, in both time and cost.

Some will say they benefit from knowing the velocity of each shot in a match. And in truth, if a long range shot goes low or high, the velocity reading can tell you if you or the ammo was the likely culprit. But if you have a problem with the ammo on the day, for whatever reason, a chrony is of no help.

I like to go into a match with a repeatable max 1 moa load. When I have that, I don't care about every velocity reading on the day.
