Has anyone hunted these?

I know of a farm near Fochville where feral hogs were living, and also about a farm near Ventersdorp where cattle had grown wild.

How often and where has it occurred in SA?

A friend who farms near Kroonstad in the Freestate has a European boar problem that he caused when a bunch of the things got out of an enclosure. There's an apparently growing population of them in the area now.

I have heard of a farmer near the Vaal Dam that hosts hunts for Feral / Mixed piggys.
If I recall, you pay per day and you pay to have one of this workers help you, almost like a caddy.

You can whack as many as your heart desires for free. Then either process them or leave them behind for local communities.

They stuff up crops big time.

I read an article some time ago about how quickly domesticated pigs go feral and fundamentally change their appearance. It was just a few generations till they looked like a different species.

Yea! Its a year or 3, not years, no reverse evolution, just like two litters and they show nothing more than traces of the pink pigs looks.

Therefore I am me.

The only changes seem to be in tusks and body size. Pig gone wild from Australia.

The article I read, if memory serves, spoke of body size, lean muscle mass, tusks, lower jaw shape, increased coat density and colouring. There may have been others. Will try and track it down and post. Was really interesting to me at least as my grandfather had a couple of farms one of which was pig and dairy cattle focused. The pigs were so alike they may as well have been clones but the example in the the article were more varied.

Here are some colour variations. I forgot the longer hair. I have seen similar looking pigs at local rural villages here in South Africa.

The two in the picture were killed with the coach gun and slugs. Explains the large entrance wounds.

Based on what the hotter of my two pet slug loads do to a 20l water container that looks bang on spec. I haven't shot a pig with them yest but friends who have say they are extremely effective. That coach gun is making me feel romantic. Would love to add something along those lines to teach my other shotties some respect for the odlen days.

Oaf, I cant recall asking you this or not, the shotties you shoot slugs with, are they rifled barrels or smooth-bore?

I shot a friend's Berretta Silver Pidgeon the other day, such a nice shotty, compared to my dog of a Maverick LOL

Smootbore, cylinder. The one that gets the most use with slugs is a Mossberg 930 SPX with low power wide angle scope on it.
