I spent the last few months of the year perfecting two loads for a 1 mile shoot. One for a BMG, one for a 338 Edge.
After the load development, I confirmed the load by reloading to that spec, and getting the same results on a different day.
The BMG came out like this :

The Edge came out like this

At 1 mile, both those loads were pretty useless. I had forgotten an important point : is the velocity consistent ?
The test was done with accuracy in mind, and in the excitement of getting what appeared to be good results, the concept of low ES did not occur to me.
The ES for both these loads was sufficient that at 1650 meters, the vertical spread was multiple target heights.
Lesson learned.
