Governments - because armed citizens have to be taken seriously

Anti-gun groups - because being afraid of guns and making others afraid of them is how they earn their living

Individuals - because except in rare instances, they have little to no experience of the things and they listen to the BS spewed by the other two 

People have been successfully brainwashed by the media, in line with the globalist agenda.

The media is owned by globalists, who use Socialism to destroy sovereign nations. Sovereign nations are the enemy of the globalists - a sovereign nation will guard and protect it's assets. Once Socialism in entrenched, there is a swift pivot to full blown Communism, and the total destruction of the sovereign nation.

The media brainwashing is to ensure that the people of the targeted nation have no physiical means to prevent the Socialist takeover of society. An armed population is the only defence against the descent into chaos, and the tyranny of full-blown Communism.

Africa, and all the nations therein, are globalist success stories - the destruction of [almost] every single sovereign nation in Africa by first growing Socialism, then full blown Communism to complete the destruction. When a country can no longer feed itself, provide it's energy needs, educate it's children, etc. , then it can easily be stripped of all natural resources needed in the globalist "free trade" economic system.

Here in South Africa, the process is a bit slow - citizens are still armed, and the economy refuses to die. Socialism is well entrenched, destroying the country from within, and ensuring South Africa can never again stand as a sovereign nation. Education is destroyed, energy supply is destroyed, water supply is destroyed, medical system is destroyed, natural resources are being pillaged by globalist firms, the government has failed - the descent into chaos will be complete when privately owned firearms are illegal.

The purpose of Socialism is not to build and create, it is to completely destroy the nation, so that the nation's assets can be stripped off at no cost to the globalists.

That is why the people must fear guns.

It is older than guns themselves - in the middle ages only a select few groups had access to real arms. Dr Martin Luther wrote "ein Bauer wehre sich mit der Gabel" (the farmer protects himself with the hay fork). 

I also think that at least some folks are uncomfortable with violence, hence the appreciation or support to anti-gun groups. 

Just as not all can run fast or do math, some folks are more inclined to see the necessity of violence, and some less.
